the week started with Whats-His-Name's niece Megan
arriving in town from Des Moines, Iowa
for a Taekwondo tournament
Sherry figured that Taekwondo meant food in Vietnamese
so she took Megan to Doson's Noodle House on Oak St
at dinner Megan explained to Sherry what
Taekwondo really was but Sherry just Waved©
and asked her to pass the dipping sauce
the sight of a pickup parked in front of Vaughn's
on a Thursday with a BBQ in the bed means just
one thing - Kermit Ruffins & The BBQ Swingers
and Kermit and his band were definitely swingin'
Sherry took young Megan under her wing and showed her
how we do it on a Thursday in New Orleans
Sherry then threw Megan into the crowd and
Megan seemed to handle it just fine
Sherry with her new friend Laura...
Laura knew about the Adventures through Larissa
S
Kermit was joined on stage by guitarist Les Getrex
Sherry, Les Getrex, Grasshopper & Steve Picou
Sherry met another new friend when Michelle introduced
Sherry to her long time best buddy Maria....
Maria (or 'Ria as we call her) just graduated medical school
and came into town ready to let loose and she did a great job
besides for great music at Vaughn's ya gotta
love the free Red Beans & Sausage at the break
during the break Sherry, Corey Henry
& Kermit had a chance to hang
Sherry & Megan call her friend back in Des Moines
just to let her know what she is missing
local favorite the inimitable Chippy then took the stage,
dedicated his set to the Rat Pack and then
did a couple of Sinatra numbers
Sherry, Les Getrex & Chippy did some socializing at the poker machines
Sherry was proud to meet Nikki,
the Queen of the Treme Sidewalk Steppers
Sherry gives Kermit a tip of the hat
Sherry did some hangin' outside too with one of her favorite
saxophone
players Eric Traub, Megan and the always irrepressible Bill Taylor
Kermit joined Sherry in wishing everyone a good evening
the next night Sherry was on her way to the Maple Leaf
when
she ran into her good friend and owner of Jacques-Imo's
Jack Leonardi
inside the Maple Leaf Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes
were definitely taking care of business
Sherry with her new friend Monica from San Francisco,
Monica came for Jazz Fest and hasn't managed to get home yet
Sherry then ran onto Cayne who she hadn't seen since the
day after
the Viper Ball when Cayne was still in her costume from the night before
at the downtown Mardi Gras Indians Super Sunday on Bayou St John
Sherry with 3 of the 4 G-Strings, a string quartet,
who opened for Johnny Sketch
...and who is the 4th G-String?
it's Natalia
Sherry and Cindy thought they were being treated to one
of Tony 8-Tracks patented dance moves
turned out to be a pinched nerve and Sherry went into action
thinking that she was on to something Sherry gave Matt
one of her miracle treatments and he winced in pain
a grateful Tony thanked Sherry and she introduced him to Monica
here we have the very rare 3 Docs and a Sherry
Mark just graduated from medical school and it was
his party in week #50 that Sherry attended with
the
Soul Sister spinning the tunes, Liz a dentist in Metairie
and of course the Doc with the tongue we get requests for...Laurie
Sherry was hangin' with some Monster Gentlemen, Derwin
and Cornell
from Jon Cleary's band, when Tony came by to sing Sherry's praises
Laurie just loves it when Sherry sings along with the band
Johnny Sketch pulled out all stops on this night, even
inviting that
annoying chick from the car commercial to dance down front
then it was time for Darcy Malone and she tears it up every time
it always makes Eric Traub content when
Sherry tells him he is a very saxy man
sadly Bill Taylor continues to regress...
he now thinks it's Day 1 at Jazz Fest
Sherry telling Darcy Malone how much she enjoys her singing
the night was looking good when Sherry saw her old friend
and favorite bartender Jamie from Jacques-Imo's
Matt always loves it when Sherry and
Laurie argue about who gets to dance with Mr P
to settle it, they both do and Mr P is the winner
Sherry was very sad to hear that her friend Heather
was moving back to Brooklyn....
good luck Heather
Sherry and Laurie congratulate Andre Bohren on a
great show with just a hint of that famous tongue
Johnny Sketch started late because Dave (Sleepy) Pomerleau
the Bass player overslept....Sherry suggests to Sleepy
a little thing she likes to call an "alarm clock"
Saturday morning Sherry was off to the airport to pick
up her son Chris,
his wife Larissa (not to be confused with Larissa Rachel)
and Sherry's Granddaughter Kylee
first stop was the Christening of Keewana's daughter Ja'Mae
out in the backyard Sherry jumped all over
the crawfish but Kylee wasn't so sure
Kylee went for the Fried Chicken and said it was the best
Larissa (Rachel) and Sherry found out Kylee was right...
great Fried Chicken
Keewana's sister Bianca cooked the Fried Chicken
and Sherry had to let her know just how mouth watering it was
later that night it was off to the Rivershack
for Sherry's old friends The Boondoggles
Boondoggles drummer Billy Schell trying to get
Grant Morris on the phone to come out and play but
Grant was spending Memorial Day weekend at the beach
Sherry and her old buddy Johnny Malone get a few minutes
to chat before The Boondoggles took the stage
then it was showtime and The Boondoggles sounded great
Sherry ran into Sleepy from Johnny Sketch at the Rivershack
The 3 Amigas...
Darcy, Sherry & Tracy
on the way out Sherry ran into Johnny Sketch guitarist
and lead singer Marc Paradis
next stop was Tipitina's and Frenchy was
out in front to greet Sherry when she arrived
also out front was Johnny Sketch drummer and
a friend of Sherry's since he was about 15, Andre Bohren
Sherry convinced Todd & Mary that she was holding auditions
for the next American Idol and they immediately broke into song
Sherry was then able to fulfill a complete Sketch sighting
when Harry Hardin, violin, harmonica and baritone saxophone,
made his appearance at Tipitina's...
now there was just one person missing
Natalia, who sang with Johnny Sketch in week
#50, opened for Johnny
Sketch earlier in this Adventure with the G-Strings,
was working her first night at Tipitina's
inside Jon Cleary and Sherry's friends the
Absolute Monster Gentlemen played a great set
Sherry then ran into the guys that have put
the life back into Tipitina's, Lee Frank and Adam Shipley
it's Cayne....Sherry had never met her until the Viper
Ball
and now sees her almost everywhere she goes
Sherry tried to calm Laurie down but Laurie insisted
she had learned how to fly and was ready to take off
Sherry then ran into all of Sean Mandel's buddies
Trumpeter James Andrews, like his brother Troy, is always
happy to see Sherry and Tony 8-Track...note Tony's shirt
Tony then decided to swap shirts with a guy in the crowd
with the swap complete, Tony was very happy with the
exchange especially when Sherry found what the other
guy had forgotten in his shirt pocket
Jon Cleary took advantage of the set break
to get his picture with Sherry
the next stop on Saturday was the Maple Leaf
and Walter "Wolfman" Washington
Sherry ran into her new friend Janine that she met in
week #50 at the party Soul Sister was spinning records
Sherry made another new friend when Steve Picou
of the Louisiana Music Commission introduced
Sherry to singer Kimberly Longstreth
always one to spot talent, it's Mario from Spyboy Productions
Sherry then found a comfortable spot at the
bar between Bill Taylor & Lee Frank
Mr P then cut in and asked Sherry to dance
Sherry greets her friend Cayne who she hadn't seen
for at least an hour or so since Tipitina's
Sherry, Jay Mazza & Grasshopper groovin' to the Wolfman
Laurie knew she had pulled a good one when she heard
Sherry telling Matt that Laurie had learned to fly
James Andrews, not looking quite as spunky as earlier,
leans on Sherry for a little late night support
Sherry ran into her old friend Tina and got introduced
to
her new friend Jared (no relation to the Subway guy)
Sherry then ran into Antonio Gambrell who plays trumpet
in
Walter's Roadmasters and Bessie who Sherry met in week #44
Sherry and Bill Taylor then met Marilyn,
the wife of Walter's drummer Junktard Dog
and the lady that tore it up when
she sang with Walter at Jazz Fest
Sherry and Grasshopper show that they
don't call Walter the Wolfman for nothing
on the way out Sherry was greeted by Cayne, Grasshopper
and Jill as they balance themselves on some unsuspecting guys bike
being a good Grandmother, Sherry passes on
the secrets of the Hula Hoop to Granddaughter Kylee
Sunday afternoon was the Greek Festival
the Greek Festival is kinda like Jazz Fest...
they have food booths but instead of Crawfish
Monica and Soft Shell Crab it's Souvlaka and Lamb
one look at the lamb on a spit and Sherry
was yearning for some Crawfish Bread
just like Jazz Fest the Greek Festival also has a music
tent
but Sherry's never seen Kazantziahe Nikoaonoyaoe at Jazz Fest
there was also a Greek dancing demonstration
so Sherry suggested a round of Ouzo shots
and a little more Greek dancing soon followed
then Sherry topped off the Greek Fest with a little wall
climbing
Sherry took the Chris, Larissa & Kylee to the
French Quarter to celebrate Memorial Day
they enjoyed a lovely lunch and then headed for Jackson Square
"Wha' Happen?"...it appears that Jackson Square
has been transformed
by Jackie Clarkson (the bizarro world Walt Disney) into
"The Unfunnest Place On Earth" and this is at 1pm on Memorial Day
here Sherry stands by some of the fine art that
Jackie Clarkson is protecting from the natural flow
of characters that inhabit the French Quarter.
Sherry also learned the only thing
worse than a mime is a painting of a mime
so to cleanse her palate Sherry took Chris & Larissa
to Donna's Bar for Bob French & Friends
featuring Sherry's good friend Eric Traub on saxophone
Larissa, Sherry, 'Ria and Michelle all crowd
around the worlds saxiest man, Eric Traub
Bob French & Friends were then joined by
Ellen Smith, a true hip shakin' mama, with a great voice
then in walked Uncle Lionel and the night belonged all to him
Uncle Lionel immediately came over to say
hello to Sherry and to met her son Chris
Larissa & Sherry gave Uncle Lionel all he could handle
but ya can't top Uncle Lionel
Sherry introduced Chris & Larissa to her old friend
Benny Jones, Uncle Lionel's band mate in the Treme Brass Band
meanwhile, Uncle Lionel had his sites set on Germaine Bazzle
it was time to call it a night as Ellen Smith,
Bob French and Eric Traub agreed with Sherry
that it had been a great Memorial Day weekend
