there is always such a special feel
to the final Sunday at Jazz Fest
always one of the highlights of the final Sunday is when
Aaron Neville, who was introduced to Sherry by Dr John
in week #48a, takes the stage in the Gospel Tent
knowing that it's Kathy's first trip to Jazz Fest and she
is probably
feeling a bit fatigued, Sherry gives her a pop quiz on how many Brothers
are in the Nevilles and when she gets to 7 Sherry knows she has her
Sherry entertained David Lee Simmons of Gambit Weekly
with her uncanny "You talkin to me?" routine
it was time for some Zydeco Lake Charles-style
with the Creole Zydeco Farmers
Dusk, Jazz Fest Johnny and Larissa were waiting up front
at Louisiana Heritage Stage as Sherry tries to shake
off the cobwebs from last nights festivities
but Eric Lindell and his band cranked up the
Blues it was all Sherry needed
Ashley tells Zachary and Gary that in the future she
foresees a nap taking place soon at this very spot
meanwhile in the Gospel Tent was the Banks Family
Sherry tells Mike Otte about Ashley's peek into
the future and they take bets on who it will be
another of the great things about Jazz Fest are the things
you see every year that bring back so many great memories....
here Sherry finds Amanda with her traditional sunflower and tambourine
it's also always amazing the great talents you'll see that
you
hadn't heard of before JazzFest...a perfect example of that
is Dorothy Prime & The Wampus Catz in the Blues Tent
Sherry said "particularly nasty weather" and
Amanda thought she
had said something about tickling somebody with something
Sherry's neighbor Big Chief Peppy lit up the parade by
the Golden Arrows Mardi Gras Indians
and Sherry was right there with him all the way
Jason explains to Paola that "if Sherry's head were
a map of
Jazz Fest, Duke's moms Key Lime Tarts would be about here"
Wayne Toups & the Zydecajun Band had an
excellent set at the Louisiana Heritage Stage
Sherry's sister Pat and brother-in-law Flip
took full advantage of the great music
when Sherry ran into Cindy she started to recall the
evening before and a certain Van Gogh tattoo
then a little more Sunday Gospel music
from the Chosen Few Gospel Group
back at the Sunshade Tent where
Zachary proves Ashley a true future teller
Sherry then entertained her sister Pat with
her personal tribute to Kermit Ruffin
it was time for some hot brass band sounds with the girls
Sherry first met in week #10, the Pinettes Brass
Band
Sherry with an old friend she finally met when she
introduced herself to Officer Norwood who Sherry
has seen every year at the front of Caddy Stage
('cause we all know that's what Fess would have driven)
Steve then gave Sherry and her sister Pat
a taste of the ol' Enslow Special
Ashley and Sherry were both excited when
it was finally time to ride Chouval B'wa
(Chouval B'wa translates to Wooden Horse)
once on you're hand pushed to maximum speed
and then the band breaks into song and you get to
enjoy one of the really fun experiences in life
back at the Professor Longhair Caddy Stage was the truly
New Orleans spectacle of the Wild Magnolia Mardi Gras Indians
Sherry was having such a great time
she broke into her Trance Dance
RB introduces Sherry to Kathy, San Diego Joe Schmidt and
Gary from New York in another of those "Jazz Fest moments"...
Joe and Gary met at Jazz Fest 23 years ago and
have been great friends ever since
a sight Sherry thought she would never see...
daddy Greg Bacques and his beautiful baby
with Bill Taylor lost in the Jazz Fest ether the
Tarp Gang piled in the tent for a collective-Day 8
feeling the end of Jazz Fest nearing
Sherry gets in some last dances
it was time for the final act and a personal
favorite of Sherry's - The Radiators
Sherry then took some time to savor the final set of music
the Tarp Gang got together for a final group photo
and all too soon it was sadly time to say
good bye to another great year of Jazz Fest
