The week started with the Lil Rascals Brass
Band
opening the Jazz Fest press conference to annouce stage times
but with Jazz Fest's Quint Davis & Councilwoman
Jackie Clarkson
both looking to make the "Adventures" Sherry avoided the situation
but later that day Sherry and her mom Helen
were thrilled to see
Sherry's brother Mike Bianchi arrive in New Orleans to cover
the Final Four basketball tournament for his newspaper
and Sherry immediately took Mike out on the
town to enjoy
a meeting/dinner with the Pizza Sluts and also to
get the traditional "rabbit ears" from Steve Enslow
then Sherry was off to the Frenchy Galleries
for the showing of
the work by Tiphanie Windsor-Peres, shown here between
gallery manager Erin Sheppard and an art loving Sherry
music for the evening was provided by an all-star
lineup of
John Gros, June Yamagishi, Eric Traub,
Raymond Weber & George Porter Jr.
Sherry was thrilled to run into her old friend
and the always
entertaining Angelina Butera who Sherry met back in week #27
proving a sax man is a sexy man Eric Traub
used a break
in the music to grab a photo with Sherry
when Sherry claimed that her new haircut was
very similar to
Steve Picou's, Larissa had to admit Sherry was right
when Sherry asked where a girl could
get a drink Sean said to look for Tiphanie
and sure enough there was Tiphanie serving 'em up double fisted
Sherry then welcomed Grasshopper's sister
Eliza
for her weekend visit to New Orleans night life
June Yamagishi was in the very first Adventures
and knew to get a shot with Sherry while he could
with some hot crawfish waiting on the back
patio
Sherry and Danny wasted no time getting in on it
Sherry with the guys from the band Sol Fiya
and their manager, and Sherry's friend, Angelina Butera
Sherry with Vincent, who plays sax with Lil
Rascals
and frequently with Rebirth, and Grasshopper
everyone was groovin' to the music but made
way
as Tiphanie delivered another round of drinks
(that is Tiphanie's artwork on the wall behind Vincent)
and whenever there's good music you'll find
the fancy footwork of Tony 8-Track
the Sol Fiya guy, Christian, Sean & Sherry were all enjoying the show
Papa Gros himself grabbed a photo with Sherry
and asked where he could get one of her buttons
Sherry, Angelina, Christian & Erin cook
up
some plans for the upcoming Jazz Fest
then Sherry moved on to the House of Blues
for some Zydeco from Nathan & The Zydeco Cha-Chas
Sherry said "let there be dancing"
and Jazz Fest Johnny
and Larissa took care of bidnez....
(JFJ and Larissa were the very first people spotted
in public wearing their "Adventures of Sherry" buttons)
here we see Buddy & Steve eyeing Sherry's
"Adventures"
button and wondering where they might get one
(just email your name and address to
Sherry@Adventures-of-Sherry.com

Marilyn, Dr Stuart Haas, Bob Stelz & Sherry
enjoyed a
moment at the bar...while Sherry gave a big Wave©,
Marilyn noticed that Dr Stuart was giving the Gynecologist
Wave
Steve then rescued Sherry for a little Zydeco dancing
then things really got hot as the New Orleans
Rubbroads
joined Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas on stage
Grasshopper and Eliza found Sherry
in the middle of the dance floor
Sherry then was greeted at the Delta Blues
Grill
by her friend Harry "Big Daddy" Hipolyte....Harry played guitar
with Clifton Chenier and many others
Steve Picou, Assistant Director of the Louisiana
Music Commission,
and Bessie were also ready to hear Harry Hipolyte play the blues
and play the blues he did as Harry Hipolyte
ripped
through a bone shakin' set of music
there's one in every cowd...this ones name is Patrick
Harry giving Sherry a personal show of his many talents
Sherry ran into Marianne Abbott, who she had
met at Tipitina's week #34, along
with Dave Fetty, Becky Freedman and Judith Myers
during the set break Sherry had a chance to
spend
a couple minutes with her friend Marc Stone, WWOZ DJ and
leader of the Marc Stone Band backing up Harry Hipolyte
Sherry also ran into her old buddy Giselle...
Sherry used to work with Giselle and
now she just gets in trouble with her
after another great set Harry told Sherry goodnight
the next morning it was time for one of Sherry's
faves...
the Freret Street Fest a.k.a. Jazz Fest Tune-Up
Friday night Sherry could be seen on the TV
season debut
of Louisiana Jukebox enjoying one of her
favorite gospel groups "The Friendly Travelers"
and Saturday afternoon she was front and center
for The Friendly Travelers at Freret Street Fest
you see all kinds of things at the Freret
Street Fest...
here we have Sherry and Pat Jolley flanking
Lorraine the stilt walker
the Giant Tooth gave Sherry a hug
and then introduced Sherry to her
best friend the Giant Toothbrush
and ya gotta love puppets
and a guy that looks like Elvis....sort of
(actually Johnny Angel minus his Swingin Demons)
Sherry and King RB argued about whether
Jay Mazza or Dr Ike had the best white guy Afro
then in the true spirit of Freret Fest they
put their differences aside and shared a dance
Sherry with her latest purchase...a little weaved bell
that turns into a Festival Hat
there were so many choices to make between all the food booths
Sherry asked her friend Jen what she should
do
and the choice became obvious
Dunbar's and....
fried chicken
back out on the street Sherry ran into
Christian and his friends Mary and Tessa
next up on the stage was Chris Neil &
The Blvd...
Chris is not only a fine musician he also runs
the tattoo shop on Freret Street
Chris spotted Sherry walking down the street
and he was quick to point out he needed to
make his
up close and personal debut in the Adventures
one of the other highlights of street fairs
are the
drawings for door prizes....you never win
but you do get some cool pot holders
Offbeat's Manager of the Year Rueben Williams and
his assistant Rani were on hand as
Big Chief Monk Boudreaux offers Sherry some of his ribs...
Sherry then checked out the Kid Art and purchased
one of their hand painted crosses
Sherry's biggest surprise of the day was finding
her favorite bicycling New Zealander Grant Morris, shown
here proudly displaying his "Adventures of Sherry" button
and there is no stopping Eliza, Grasshopper
and Steve Picou
as they also enjoy the sights and sounds of Freret Street Fest
Sherry was really happy to see Elie Sasson
again...
Elie is from San Francisco and an old friend of Michelle's
and the sounds continued with Sherry's favorite
piano playing
coffee shop owner Eddie Bo
(see week #43's grand opening of Check
Your Bucket)
also enjoying Eddie Bo with Sherry was Larissa,
Miss Veronica and Chris Ryan
Larissa and Sherry then lead the cheers of
"Boola Boola, Boola Boo,
We love Fred University
good ol' F.U."
enjoying a surprise visit Sherry is joined
by
Renee's mom Mary Jo, Renee and Mary Jo's friend Sue
winner of most unusual Fest dish of the day
was Joey & Amy
enjoying a large plate of curried goat
don't know if it had anything to do with the
goat or not,
but soon after it started to rain and rain and rain some mo'....
and what do you do when your Fest is rained out????
you go to Hansen's for the only snow ball
(or Sno-Bliz as it is known here) that is listed
in the Zagat Restaurant Guide

heavenly syrup
Sherry knew everything would be alright
