Sherry kicked off the week in style
with a heepin' helpin' of hot crawfish....
oh yeah, Mike was in from Houston too
then it was off to Tipitina's as they kicked
off their
25th Anniversary Celebration with an incredible lineup of music
the first person to greet Sherry was Tipitina's
Assistant Venue Manager Kevin Burley, who recognized
Sherry from reading about her on his girlfriends e-mail
Sherry was front and center when her old friend
Walter "Wolfman" Washington fired up the Roadmasters
here we see Sherry with BA, RB and BT or as
she likes to call them-Da Alphabet Boyz
Sherry was really excited to run into Elizabeth
her neighbor from across the street we met in week #2
and then it was time for Meters founding member
and guitarist Leo Nocentelli
seen here along with bassist extrordinaire Tony Hall
at first RB didn't believe Sherry when she
said there was something quite odiferous
but RB soon had to admit Sherry was right again
after being rescued by Sherry and The Goo
a still
bleary eyed RB appears quite relieved
BA was in from Cali when Sherry held
an impromptu "Sherry Wave©"
competition
at Buffa's on Thursday night...the winner?
Bob....of course
then back to Tipitina's for night #2 with
Sherry's
good friend BT your MC for the evening
starting it off was the Lil Rascals Brass
Band
featuring the incredible Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews
Sherry with "Shorty's" friend Shalanda....
it was Shalanda that taught Sherry
the 2nd Line Bunny Hop in week #30
sporting the always fashionable "Angola
Prison Rodeo" t-shirt
was Sherry's new friend Sean, who she met just last week (#32)
another of Sherry's neighbors was the next
on stage...
Big Chief Peppy and the Golden Arrows put on
a truly spiritual set of traditional Mardi Gras Indian music
but once the Big Chief spotted Sherry it was
obvious he
wasn't gonna miss this opportunity to make it into the Adventures
BA was happy to meet Michelle, who he had
seen in the Adventures ever
since Sherry met her at the Mirliton Festival back in week #22
Big Chief Bo Dollis then lit it up with the Wild Magnolias
sitting in with the Wild Magnolia's was Alfred
"Uganda" Roberts
who often played with Professor Longhair
Sherry and Michelle then ran into another
of the Da Alphabet Boyz...
DK
Sherry finished off night #2 dancing the night
away
with Phil Frazier of the Rebirth Brass Band
while in line on night #3 Sherry ran into
Harry (Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes week #8 )
and Natalia
while still in line she also saw Erin Shepard,
Gallery Director
of Frenchy Galleries (week #27) and her friend "Honey"
she told Sherry his name but she forgot...sorry
while on her way in Sherry was recognized
by
Michelle's friend's Aaron, Dan & Jim
then it was time for the Tipitina's 25th Anniversary
Founders Ball.
This is the night in the celebration when the original founders of Tipitina's
were honored with an all-star group featuring Cyril Neville, Ivan Neville,
George Porter Jr, June Yamagishi, Stanton Moore and the Dirty Dozen Horns
Sherry made a new friend when she ran into
a fellow Gator...Karen Anderson
Sherry and Fred Cargo pose with this kid from
Ohio
who was still celebrating Ohio State's victory over Miami
here is Sherry with Lee Frank, the Promotions
Director of Tipitina's and
one of folks behind the resurrection of this great club, and Steve Forster,
Big Easy Partying Shots photographer for the Times Picayune
Quint Davis, in his weirdest outfit ever,
jumped on stage
and began doing a James Cagney impersonation in a desperate
attempt to get Sherry's attention but it was no use
finally...two of the only people in New Orleans
to avoid being in
the Adventures until now, Nicole and Grant were spotted
in the crowd and Sherry couldn't have been happier
Laurie & Sherry....
insert tongue joke of choice here
Sherry then ran into WWL News Anchor Dennis
Woltering
as he made his way to the front of the stage
Sherry saw her old friend Sonny Schneidau,
who started out working the
bar at Tipitina's, worked his way up to booking the acts at Tips
and now is in charge of booking at House of Blues
meanwhile Cyril & Ivan were keepin' it funky
guitar legend Deacon John knows how to work
the spotlight
and quickly positioned himself for his Adventures debut
Tipitina's Founding Member Steve Armbruster
was thrilled to meet Sherry
but could not confirm or deny rumors that, in recognition of her perfect
attendance at the first week of their 25th Anniversary, Tipitina's is
considering, in the grand New Orleans tradition of Ruth's Chris
and Pascals's Manale, in renaming the club Sherry's Tipitina's
Sherry with two of her former Gambit buddies
Giselle & David Lee Simmons
like most of us Sherry thought John Candy had passed years ago
Tony Hall was jammin' it with Leo on Wednesday
but Friday night he was jammin' with Laurie, Sherry & The Gov
on Saturday Harry & Natalia were once again the first people Sherry saw
Sherry was happy to see David Lee Simmons
and Steve Palmes back for more on Saturday
the night got jump started by Jon Cleary
& The Absolute Monster Gentlemen
Sherry knew it was gonna get serious when
she ran into Fred Cargo & Lee Yates
and it don't get much more serious than the
Funky Meters,
who are joined here by Art's son Ian on guitar
Sherry was shocked when Walker caught her pinching his butt
but our girl quickly rebounded and turned
into a
photo op with Walker and Christine
as if it wasn't funky enough,
Ivan Neville joined the action on stage
an unknown crowd dweller stopped to tell Sherry
(and this is verbatim) "you are from another planet.
Nobody else here knows that you are, but I do"
and then walked back to his spot
Pappa Funk and Ivan duel it out on the B3
Sherry and the gang all agreed the music this
week was all unbelievable
and their is another week to go...except maybe for Joe from Arkansas
